20th International Wine Competition Decanter Word Wine Awards

Cyprus wines received important distinctions once again at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) International Wine Competition, organized every year by the British wine magazine Decanter, the results of which were announced on June 7.

Celebrating 20 years of presence this year, this specific competition is considered one of the largest and most influential worldwide. The entries from Cyprus received a total of 43 awards: 1 gold medal, 14 silver medals and, 28 bronze medals.

Vlassides Winery participated this year in the competition with 3 wines: the premium wine of the winery, Artion, and the wines Oroman and Alates, which are created with the local varieties of Yiannoudi and Xynisteri, respectively.

More specifically, the distinctions for the wines of Vlassidis Winery are as follows:

Grape composition: 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Shiraz, 24% Merlot

Tasting notes: Classy, classic palate of graphite and cassis; beautifully balanced, complex and mature, with firm tannins and a long finish.

Award: Bronze medal

Style: Still – Dry (below 5 g/L residual sugar)

Alcohol level: 13%

Grape composition: 100% Xynisteri

Tasting notes: Rich, mineral wine with a golden colour, ripe apricot and bitter almond characters and a long finish.

Award: Bronze medal

Style: Still – Dry (below 5 g/L residual sugar)

Alcohol level: 14.5%

Grape composition: 91% Yiannoudi, 9% Shiraz

Tasting notes: Focused aromas of leather and spice. Round palate with a velvety texture, firm tannins and a fairly long, spicy finish.
