Notable Achievements for Vlassides Winery at the 15th Cyprus Wine Competition

 

The 15th Cypriot Wine Competition, organized annually by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, began on Monday, May 13, and concluded with the award ceremony on Friday, May 17, 2024. The competition was held under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, Dr. Maria Panayiotou, and the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).

This year, 27 wineries participated in the competition with a total of 134 wines, which were evaluated by a seven-member jury. Awards were given to 30% of the entries in each category. In the category of dry, semi-dry, and semi-sweet wines, 21 wines received gold medals and 19 wines received silver medals. In the category of sweet wines, which includes the P.D.O “Commandaria” wine, one great gold medal and four gold medals were awarded. Additionally, five special distinctions were awarded for wines produced exclusively from indigenous Cypriot varieties: “Giannoudi”, “Maratheftiko”, “Morokanella”, “Promara”, and “Xynisteri”.

The Vlassides Winery was honoured with two gold medals, one silver medal, and one special distinction. Specifically, the wine ΌROMAN 2021 received a gold medal, achieving the highest score among all red samples in the dry, semi-dry, and semi-sweet wines category. Additionally, the wine SAUVIGNON BLANC VLASSIDES 2023 received a gold medal, and the wine MERLOT VLASSIDES 2021 received a silver medal. The ΌROMAN also received a special distinction as the wine from the Cypriot variety “Giannoudi” with the highest score.
