ARTION

Artion is the premium red wine of Vlassides Winery; a true work of art.

The wine is produced from varieties grown exclusively in the estate’s own vineyards. Its varietal composition differs slightly every year, in order to bring out the best qualities of the wine.

Artion is a blend of Merlot grapes from the Karamanos vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon from the vineyard at Afames and Shiraz from the Katoshi vineyard. Merlot gives it a rich, velvety character, whereas Cabernet Sauvignon helps it to evolve during a ten-year period and Shiraz revives it, giving it a breath of “freshness”.

The wine matures in new French barrels for eighteen months, followed by two years in the bottle.

The wine is unfiltered and is recommended to be decanted and served at 18°C.

Vinification:

The vinification of the three varieties takes place separately. Maceration lasts up to 15 days. The wine finishes its alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in new oak barrels. After the fermentation the wine matures in new French oak barrels for 18 months followed by two years in bottle. It is bottled unfiltered.

Notes of cherry, ripe forest fruits, bay leaves, tobacco, black chocolate, and black pepper intertwine harmoniously, creating an olfactory experience that lingers in the memory.
  • Taste and texture: The palate is treated to an exquisite balance between moderate acidity and finely crafted tannins. With a full-bodied texture, this wine leaves a long and sweet aftertaste, imparting a sense of satisfaction while inviting anticipation for the next sip.
  • Ageing potential: With its structural integrity, this wine boasts a promising ageing potential ranging from 10 to 12 years.

2018 Harvest:

2018 was a year with major rainfall during May and June, but we managed to deal with the consequences on time so as to ensure the good quality of all our grape varieties along with their proper maturity.

The mild summer season of 2018, allowed the plants to grow and berry-set under 32°C, ensuring excellent organoleptic characteristics; especially for our Sauvignon blanc and later on for our red varieties, in September.

We expect that our 2018 harvest in white wines, which we will enjoy in December of 2018, to produce an intensely aromatic and fruity character. Additionally, we expect our red wines which will be available in the fall of 2019 and 2020 to be rich in color and to have the desirable alcohol content and soft tannins.
